Could your community group benefit from tips and strategies to advocate for your community?

If so, join Community Development Advocates of Detroit and Michigan Community Resources for the upcoming Advocacy 101 workshop to learn tools and strategies to advocate for your community. You will hear from Rashida Tlaib, former state legislator and organizer and Linda Campbell, a seasoned community advocate/organizer, on successful strategies to talk to your elected officials and learn how to identify your advocacy issue. The workshop will include an opportunity for you to practice your skills with fellow participants and see a model of effective advocacy communication.

Part of CDAD's Community Storytelling project, you can also view on:

Delray is the location for the New International Trade Crossing Bridge between Detroit and Canada. This community sees more than 10,000 trucks per day, is home to a steel making facility, an oil refinery, and the country’s largest single-site waste water treatment plant.

The film focuses on the current state of the neighborhood and features interviews with Delray residents and community organizers who are fighting for community benefits to be associated with the development of the new bridge. Delray demonstrates the value of community organizing, community planning, and the impact of large infrastructure projects on a small community.

Special thanks to CDAD's Public Policy and Communications Intern Troy Anderson, and filmmaker Logan Stark who produced the film. The filmmakers can be contacted by email at [email protected]

If you have any questions please email [email protected]

Enjoy the film!

We Need You (to fill out this survey)!

CDAD is building a comprehensive directory and map of all Detroit’s community-based organizations: D[COM]munity! Please ensure that your Community Development Organization, Block Club, Neighborhood Association, or similar organization is included by completeing the D[COM]munity survey.  Your participation will literally help put your organization on the map!

D[COM]munity is an interactive web-based tool that provides a comprehensive directory and interactive map of all Detroit-based community organizations.  The information in D[COM]munity will be publicly available and is intended to increase knowledge of neighborhood-based groups throughout Detroit, increase collaboration, and promote grassroots revitalization.

Public launch of the D[COM}munity Map and Directory is scheduled for Spring 2015.

For any questions regarding the survey or the D[COM]munity project please contact:
