Education & Career Pipeline

The education and career community development pipeline is a continuum of learning and leadership opportunities for Detroit residents. The work of the Pipeline is not limited to individual achievements.  Components include a advocating for equitable hiring practices, wages and benefits for practices, a digital portal to facilitate career planning and employment, and support for succession planning and board development.

Our goal is to increase the number of Detroiters of color who are prepared to take on leadership roles as fierce advocates for their neighborhoods — from middle schoolers to elders — making community development their lifetime careers.

With CDAD as the core convenor, currently four CDOs (Cody Rouge Community Action Alliance, Congress of Communities, Eastside Community Network and Urban Neighborhood Initiatives) focused on youth ages 11–24, working to create partnerships with DPSCD through community development dual enrollments, high school paid internships, and teaching an original community development curriculum at the Middle and High School levels. Development of the adult component is in its early stages.
