Darius Watkins

Capacity Building Program Manager

Darius was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan growing up on Detroit’s Lower East Side. His inspirations early on derived from elders in his Lower East Side community and their work around neighborhood development, education & empowerment. Darius knew that early on his mission would be to help organize and give back to the community he is proud to call home. A true son of the city.

After a high school career that concluded with a diploma from one’s of Detroit’s most prestigious schools, University Preparatory High. He then went on to attend Eastern Michigan University where he is the first person in his family to graduate college. After his academic career, Darius set his sights on coming back to the community to serve. Gathering skills along his academic journey such as public speaking, data analysis and written communication to name a few. A decade later, Darius is still just as passionate about community development and unity as he was learning from his elders while he was growing up. “Teamwork makes the dream work” as he always likes to say, because he’s a believer in this mentality and in the word ‘team’.

In Darius’ spare time he enjoys music, reading, sports and improving his third language of Spanish. He has also co-written a book: “The Impossible Project, The Lemonade Stand 2: Transformational Stories on How People Turned Lemons into Lemonade”, received accolades from New Detroit, the State of Michigan, Native P.R.I.D.E, University of Michigan, Livingworks & Eastern Michigan University. Darius joined CDAD December 12, 2022 and is ecstatic to be on board and to help serve our members in the ways they need to be served!
